Adult Learning at Beth Am

You can always learn a little something.

Jews study. Through study we honor our past; we learn to deal with our present; and we insure a Jewish future as we pass on our heritage to our children. At Beth Am we believe, as our sages from the earliest of times have taught, that study and education are central to the preservation of Judaism. The Mishnah, after detailing a Jew's individual duties such as honoring parents among the mitzvot that are rewarded, concludes that the study of Torah is "equal to them all (Peah 1:1)."

Beth Am has educational programs, sessions and meetings covering almost every aspect of Jewish life and learning. We study over lunch, over bagels, over coffee and over a stove. On Tishah b’Av and Yom Kippur we study without food. But, most of the time we nosh and study. We study in pairs, in groups and in classes. We even study on walks, runs or hikes with one of our Rabbis.

Sometimes there's a charge for some of the courses at Beth Am because of the costs involved. Most of our classes are free. If money's a problem, call Rabbi Sarah Wolf- she'll work out something. Also call her if we missed a subject that you are interested in. She loves ideas for new classes.

Programming Calendar

We invite you to make the time to join the Beth Am community this year for a single class, a mini-course, a semester, or year-long exploration. We have weekly drop-in classes and special one-time study events.  Our education theme for 5771 (2010-2011) is “Ahavah - What's Love Got to Do With It,” which we will be exploring in a variety of ways throughout the coming year.

For more details on these classes and many others, please see below, visit http://www.lehrhaus.org, or contact Rabbi Sarah Wolf . Full course catalogues are also available in the Beth Am office.
