If you did not have the opportunity or chose not to celebrate becoming bar/bat mitzvah at the age of thirteen, it is never too late! Come and learn with others and celebrate this simchah with your Beth Am community. Becoming an adult bar/bat mitzvah requires two years of study including Hebrew language, text, modern Jewish thought, and six months of intensive preparation leading up to the Shabbat morning service and. SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE WEEKEND WITH NOAM ZION Educator from the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem We are honored to once again welcome Noam Zion as our Scholar in Residence. Noam, a resident of Jerusalem, is the author of the well-known Passover Haggadah, A Different Night. Please join us for a wonderful weekend of learning, February 22-24. All of the details on his lectures are below. If you have not yet had the chance to study with this engaging scholar and author, please don't miss this opportunity.
FRIDAY, February 22: 6:15 p.m. Candlelight Shabbat Service, Sanctuary. Noam will share a d'var Torah entitled The Dream and the Disappointment - David's Hopes for his People: Making Jerusalem the Key to Jewish Unity. SATURDAY, February 23: 9:15 a.m., Torah Study, Beit Kehillah - The Story of Bathsheva: King David's Watergate. 10:30 a.m. Shabbat Morning Service, Sanctuary - Noam Zion will offer a d'var Torah entitled Making Shabbat a Day Apart for Your Family. 3:30 p.m., Beit Kehillah - We'll begin by singing songs of Israel and then join Noam for a presentation entitled: Tzedakah or Philanthropy or Charity? Alternative Cultures of Giving - Jewish, Greek and Christian. SUNDAY, February 24: 9 a.m., Sanctuary - The Art of Moral Criticism - How to Tell People Off and when to Hold Your Peace. Bagels and coffee will be available in the foyer before the lecture. NOTE: All lectures are free and open to the public. Suggested donation of $36 to the Adult Learning Fund will help to ensure the continued vibrancy of our program.
