TOLEDOT "GENERATIONS" PROGRAM:
THE ADULT STUDY PROGRAM OF CRITICAL ISSUES

Toledot is a special set of adult learning classes. It was started as a parallel learning program to our youth education classes. Parents could study the same subjects, in a little more depth, as the kids. It was a way to reinforce the classroom experience at home by offering a method to continue the discussions and the learning that began in class. The program became so popular that we opened it to all adults. In addition to learning for its own sake, these courses allow congregants to enjoy a learning community and to serve as role models for the children of our congregation by actively participating in lifelong learning. And, if you haven’t seen, well, heard, a hundred or so kids chant the Birkat Hamazon, well you’ve got an experience to look forward to.

This year's courses will include many learning opportunities. Fees for Toledot cover the expenses we incur in hiring outside teachers and childcare professionals and in providing food and beverages. NOTE: In order to make Toledot as attractive as possible, we have found a way to subsidize the program this year. You’ll notice the fees have been dramatically reduced.

Toledot Mini Courses
Sundays, 9-11 a.m,

Join us for a new and exciting Toledot year. Join us for three mini-series taught in turn by Cantor Lauren Bandman , Rabbi Josh Zweiback, and Rabbi Janet Marder. Tuition: Suggested donation of $36. To reserve child-care, contact Jessica Rosenberg at jrosenberg@betham.org. Sundays, 9-11 a.m. (meets in the Beit Kehillah)

Eternal Lovers  with Cantor Bandman - Oct 31 and Nov 4 -  In this two part class, we invite you to explore the powerful seduction of music and prose in our sacred tradition through the romantic verses of Shir haShirim (The Song of Songs).

Zionism 101 with Rabbi Zweiback - Nov 18, Dec 2, Dec 9 - It’s an idea powerful enough to give birth to a nation. It’s controversial. It’s always in the news. It means different things to different people. Discover what it means to you. Learn about the origins of the word, what it has come to mean, and what it might mean in the future. All in three engaging, participatory sessions—not a bad deal. No prior study of Zionism required or assumed.

Jewish Short Stories with Rabbi Marder and Dr. Joyce Moser - Mar 2, 9, 16, and May 4, 11 - Join this amazing duo and engage with some extraordinary writers. These authors’ works, written against the background of huge personal, cultural and political upheavals, have transformed and enlarged the nature of Jewish identity in the modern world. They have also given us some of the most vivid prose of the last hundred years. We will be drawing on a wide range of short stories and novellas written in English or translated from Yiddish, German or Hebrew. Registration Form.

Tuition: Suggested donation of $36. To reserve child-care, contact Jessica Rosenberg at jrosenberg@betham.org.
