BAM Book Group Discusses The Forgetting River by Doreen Carvajal
This month, Beth Am Men turn our attention to the Inquisition and its aftermath. In The Forgetting River, journalist Doreen Carvajal, who was raised Catholic, discovers that her ancestor were Conversos, Jews who converted to Christianity to escape torture by the Inquisition. Ms. Carvajal travels to Spain to understand her religious heritage, and while there, she discovers the secret history of those times and the fear that still pervades in the descendants of the Inquisition's victims.
