List of Funds

Honor a loved one/friend/colleague/clergy member/educator, etc., by making a gift in their honor or memory to one of our special or named funds. Download a contribution form (under Resources, on right side of page).

Named and Special Funds

 

General Fund

Contributions to this Fund are used where the need is greatest, as determined by our Boardof Directors.

Clergy and Educators Discretionary Funds

The use of discretionary funds is governed by the Congregation Beth Am Policy on Discretionary Funds. Discretionary funds are intended for charitable purposes for programs that generally benefit the congregation, but not for normal operating expenses or personal use.

Endowments

Education Endowment Fund

Provides funds to enrich existing and create new congregational educational programs.

Fund for the Future

Provides funds to support Beth Am’s annual operating budget.

Saxe Family Scholar‐in‐Residence Endowment Fund

Supports an annual scholar‐in‐residence program at Congregation Beth Am, in perpetuity.

Named and Special Funds


Adult Education Fund

Supports lifelong learning programs. Provides scholarships for congregants in need of assistance. Helps Beth Am to develop and launch new programs.

Anida Hamburg Fund

Benefits the children enrolled in Beth Am’s youth education through programs and activities.

California Jewish Heritage Fund

Sponsors special programs and speakers relating to the history and experience of the Jewish people in California and the West.

Émigré Program Fund

Supports the work of our émigré staff and programs for the émigré community.

Ernst Guthaner Fund for Cultural and Educational Programming

Sponsors special programs relating to Jewish culture and education. Examples include programs and guest speakers on literature, poetry, theater, music, history, the
Holocaust, and various fields of Jewish learning.

Hunger & Homelessness Fund

Provides support to organizations assisting the needy, including the Ecumenical Hunger Project, MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, the Palo Alto Urban Ministry and Peninsula Interfaith Action.

Israel Awareness Fund

Supports programs to raise the level of awareness of the Beth Am Community to the central role played by the State of Israel.

Israel Mittelman Family Senior Programs Fund

Supports the program needs of Beth Am’s senior community, such as lectures, classes, trips and retreats. Scholarship assistance may be offered to foster an inclusive community, and staff may be hired to design, present, supervise or coordinate senior programs.

Jack & Fay Ruby Camp Fund

Provides needs‐based camperships for Beth Am youth to attend Jewish summer camps.

Joe Podolsky Visual History Fund

Supports the ongoing effort to maintain a visual history of Congregation Beth Am and to foster an appreciation of photographic, audio, and video media as a means to enhance and document our lives.

Kulanu Fund

Supports the work of Kulanu, a group of parents, family and friends of gay and lesbian Jews. The group meets to share common experience and concerns, and to explore ways through education, programming and communication to provide an inclusive environment within the congregation for our Jewish gay and lesbian community.

Library Fund

Supports the work of our librarian and Library Committee in acquiring new publications. Loebner Holocaust Remembrance Fund Promotes education and awareness concerning the Holocaust through a yearly event or activity and other suitable means.

Milton I. Liebhaber Oneg and Holiday Fund

The Milton I. Liebhaber Oneg and Holiday Fund will be used to enhance the Shabbat and holiday communal experience at Congregation Beth Am by providing funds for Oneg refreshments and community lunches at Shabbat and holiday celebrations.

Music & Art Fund

Supports cultural programming at Beth Am.

Phyllis and Stuart Moldaw Youth Education Scholarship Fund

To provide need‐based full or partial scholarships for Congregation Beth Am youth to participate in formal or informal youth education programs, including off‐site
educational opportunities such as camp, leadership training, or Israel programs.

Poltava Fund

Supports our sister congregation in the former Soviet Union.

Rabbi Akselrad Lectureship Fund

Supports lecturers and programs that focus on social justice, ethics and/or human relations.

Social Action Emergency Relief Fund

Enables Beth Am to provide a rapid response to national or international emergencies.

Susan Gaskill Adult Jewish Learning Fund

Provides scholarship assistance as needed to any adult member of Congregation Beth Am for the purpose of participating in Jewish study opportunities outside of
congregational programs. The fund will also be used to support teacher development at Congregation Beth Am.

Worship Fund

Provides support for Shabbat and festival programming. Provides for purchase and replacement of the congregation’s prayer books and repair or purchase of ritual items.

Youth Education, Camp and Israel Scholarship Fund

Provides needs‐based scholarships for Beth Am youth to participate in form
