Learning

Lifelong learning is an essential Jewish value, and Beth Am has educational opportunities for every age, from babies through adulthood. Clergy, educators, staff, Beth Am members and invited scholars from around the world teach, inspire and challenge us. Learning happens in nature, in homes, at top-quality lectures and presentations, over lunch, through the arts and in classrooms with our dedicated teachers.

Youth Education programs are innovative and always adapting to new ideas. We are proud to be part of Re-Imagine, a national project that is helping us phase out religious school as we’ve known it and move Jewish education out of the classroom. We are also very pleased to host T'enna at Beth Am, which is part of the T'enna Preschool at the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center.

Beth Am members are learners for life! Study over lunch and over bagels. Study in pairs, groups and classes. Study on walks, runs or hikes - come and learn!

Presented by the San Francisco Bay Area Jewish Genealogical Society — In 1884, at age 20, David Blumenfeld and his parents and younger siblings left Courland, Latvia, and moved to Minnesota. Shortly after David's death in 1955 his box of unpublished writing disappeared, only to be rediscovered in 2009 in the basement of a now-Episcopalian great-grandson in Seattle. The featured work of this newly discovered collection is "Diary", a semifictionalized story of the family's life in Latvia, their decision to leave for America, and the first 30 years of their life in their new world.
