Purim is Around the Corner!

Hamantashen, groggers and costumes, oh my!

It's that time of year again time! Time to put on your costumes and dig out your groggers. Get ready for a week of festivity and laughter as we celebrate Purim the Beth Am way!

Purim commemorates the deliverance of the Persian Jews from annihilation. Queen Esther and her cousin Mordecai save the day from the king's villainous advisor, Haman. The word purim means lots and refers to the lottery Haman used to choose the massacre date. There are four mitzvot associated with Purim: listening to the reading of the Book of Esther; sending mishloach manot (gifts of food to friends); giving charity to the poor; and eating a festive meal. Come in costume to add to the fun!

Purim festivities start Thursday, March 8 with our Adult Purim party, open to those age 21 years and over. We'll begin at 7 p.m. with music, shmoozing, eating and drinking, followed by a short film, the Megillah reading, and the infamous adult Purim shpiel!

Family Purim is Sunday, March 11, at 11 a.m. starting with our family-friendly Purim shpiel, followed by the Purim carnival. Adults and children of all ages will have a blast. Don t forget to come in costume. All proceeds from Purim events support our Beth Am programs.
