PROGRAM SUGGESTIONS FOR
MEDICAL MARIJUANA FILM AND DISCUSSION

In Preparation:

Plan for an hour and half program. The film takes only 20 minutes. Leave plenty of time for discussion. Have group leaders assigned beforehand for small group discussion, if preferred or available.
  1. What is the purpose of showing the film?
Is there a committee plan for action after having this presentation?
Who will be the moderator? Will your rabbi or educator be involved?

  2. How will you publicize the event to get lots of interest? Use your local newspapers and e-mail lists.
    Some titles to consider
    :
*Medical Marijuana : The Jewish Perspective, the right thing to do.   "If not now, when???"      The Supreme Court rules ?     How can you help change the classification of medical marijuana?
*Legalizing Medical Marijuana: What are the issues?
    *Marijuana Myths, Marijuana Facts
    *Medical Marijuana - Reconsidered
    *Marijuana: The Forbidden Medicine Why?

  3. What handouts do you have for those who will be at the program in addition to the enclosed Study Guide which should be given to everyone who attends? Where have your Senator and Representative stood on this issue in the past? Have voting records available. What are the laws in your state on the medical use of marijuana?

  4. Why a Sisterhood Action Plan? WRJ is the only faith organization which has taken a positive position to review the US government's existing policies. As a Sisterhood Woman you have a personal and communal responsibility "to make a difference in this world." Act now to inform and educate your community, and discuss the need for research and access to medical marijuana for those who are critically ill. Learn about Schedule I, II and III drugs. Review enclosed materials as background.

    Sisterhood Action Plan:

Know your elected officials' positions on medical marijuana.

  1. If you are at a political meeting, ask questions about medical marijuana? Follow up with an information sheet about our resolution. ( Included on attached study guide)
    1. Call congresspeople and make your position clear. In the US, the Capitol Switchboard is (202)224-3121 and you can be connected to your Senator or Representative.
    2. Call the UAHC's Religious Action Center in Washington and find out if there are bills pending on the "rescheduling" of medical marijuana so that it can be used in research and be prescribed by a doctor for the chronically and critically ill.
  2. Join a Medical Marijuana Political group to support change as it happens. Look on attached sheet for web pages. Be knowledgeable. Educate yourself. Educate others.

  3. Grassroots movements can change policy. Communicate with people in other faith communities. How can we work together to right this wrong? How can we assist the caregivers who are trying to help those too ill with cancer or AIDS to help themselves.. They need medical marijuana to be legally prescribed by their doctors.
