Our current programs include:

  • Shabbat in the Round (S.I.T.R.)—This musical Friday evening service is conducted “in the round” and includes an ensemble of guitar, mandolin, bass, percussion and whatever other instruments we can find.  This service falls on the third Friday night of each month (except June-August) and meets in the Beit Kehillah on the Beth Am campus.  The service begins at 6:15 p.m.
  • Shabbat Dinner—Following our Shabbat in the Round service each month we host a themed (cuisine, not costumes) Shabbat dinner.  Invitations are sent via Socializr and Facebook each month.  We ask that if, you’re planning on joining us that you please RSVP each month.  That way we order enough food for everyone.  All meals are catered and dairy/vegetarian.
  • Roots Collective Pub Night—At least once a month you need an excuse to go to a dive bar, have a beer and a handful of peanuts and just relax with new and old friends.  Join us monthly at Antonio’s Nut House from 7:00 p.m. to whenever you feel like going home for just such an evening.  If you arrive before 8:00 p.m., your first drink is on us.  As always, bring your old friends, come ready to make new ones.
  • Roots Collective Salon – Once a month we take over a coffee shop in Los Altos (Mr. English on State Street – All fair trade, organic coffee roasted in the shop!) for a 21st century take on the late-19th century German intellectuals’ salon.  Think book group but with 20 pages of reading instead of 500 pages.

Each month we will distribute electronically an essay, short story or report that engages us in a conversation about Jewish life.  Sources for our reading come from Guilt & Pleasure, Zeek, Sh’ma and many other reputable publications.

  • Roots Collective Justice Initiative – Watch here for a very exciting new partnership in the works with a community in need of help and support in East Palo Alto.
