Our tradition considers justice to be one of the highest principles of Jewish living. Deuteronomy 16:20 teaches: Tzedek, tzedek tirdof (Justice, justice, you shall pursue). Why is justice listed twice? It’s not an editing error. One interpretation is that we should pursue justice in ways that are just. Beth Am’s Beit Midrash Youth Education programs strive to create young menschen -Jews who lead lives based on Jewish ethics and morals.
Each of our Beit Midrash programs – Shabbaton, Sunday Program, Hagigah, Hebrew, Tuesday Night Program, Tzavta, Retreats, Confirmation, and our youth groups – provide unique learning opportunities while teaching the value of tzedek/justice.
Our education theme for the year, Tzedek, tzedek tirdof, will help us to focus on pursuing justice in our every day lives and in the world around us. We will explore this theme in each of our youth and adult Beit Midrash programs for the 2008-2009 programmatic year
We’re excited that Gan Ami, our early childhood program, and Hagigah, our children's theater program for grades 2-5, will return for the second year. For the first time, we will offer a one semester 7th grade Hebrew class for students who want to continue learning conversational Hebrew. A new curriculum and structure will be introduced for the 8th grade of TNP, which includes Core class electives, Tikkun Olam fieldtrips, and a class trip to Los Angeles in the spring. Finally, our high school and Confirmation programs are changing to include more options and student-directed learning
In order to help you and your children become Rodfei Tzedek (pursuers of justice), please take a moment to read through this packet and then register for our Beit Midrash programs. We look forward to welcoming your family into another year of excellent Beth Am education programs.
L’shalom!
