Tzavta ("Together")

Our 6th & 7th Grade Family B’nai Mitzvah education program

is designed to:

BUILD COMMUNITY
EXPLORE JEWISH TRADITION AS A FAMILY
ENHANCE SHABBAT CELEBRATION

Program Highlights:

  • A family exploration of the rituals, liturgy, and sacred obligations of becoming Bar/Bat Mitzvah in Jewish tradition and at Beth Am.
  • Celebration of Shabbat with family, the community of pre-B’nai Mitzvah families, and Beth Am educators and clergy.
  • Opportunities to attend Shabbat services and see how becoming Bar/Bat Mitzvah is celebrated at Beth Am.

How to Enroll in 6th Grade Tzavta :

  • Select either the Tzavta A or Tzavta B dates. Shabbat evenings are from 5 - 8:30 p.m.,  and Shabbat mornings are from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • The dates for the upcoming year are as follows:

PLEASE NOTE: These dates are tentative and subject to change.

  • How to Enroll in 7th Grade Tzavta :

    • Attend any 4 of the following 6 Shabbat programs. Please R.S.V.P. at least a week prior to the program date. 
    Saturday, September 15 (services offsite at the beach) time tbd
    Friday, October 5 6:15 – 8:30 (services and dinner)
    Friday, November 2 5 – 7:30 (dinner and services)
    Saturday, November 17 10:30 – 1:30 (services and lunch)
    Saturday, February 23 9:30 – 12:30 (breakfast and services)
    Saturday, March 15 9:30 – 1230 (breakfast and services)

    Program Expectations:

    • Attendance. As is the case with all of our programs, families are expected to attend regularly. A minimum of 80% attendance is required. This means that in order to receive credit for the year the family must attend at least 8 of the 10 6th grade sessions.
    • This program is a required component of celebrating becoming Bar/Bat Mitzvah at Beth Am.
    • Any Shabbat meals will be potlucks. Each family is expected to assist the parent coordinators with these meals.
