Sh'ma Groups Corner
Get to know Sh’ma Groups! This month, we feature a group that began in the pilot phase and still continues to meet — the B’nai Mitzvah Parents of 2016-2017. The group is made up of five families, all with kids ages 10-18 and two working parents. The members live in Menlo Park, San Carlos, and Los Altos.
So far, their favorite “Ask Big Questions” discussion has been “What are you thankful for?” because it elicited some great personal answers and resulted in a lively discussion. They also enjoyed the question “How does technology change us?” because it caused everyone to engage in personal introspection together. One member of the group, Vidya, reflected, “I’m always surprised that people in our group are so open to sharing their life story. I applaud them for being brave and vulnerable and even emotional at times. It’s made me realize that we have a safe space in our group, which I really like.”
*Sh’ma Groups are comprised of 8-12 people, including a trained guide, who meet regularly in members’ homes to build relationships, deepen connections and grow Jewishly together through meaningful conversations. Learn more about starting a group or joining a group.
