Update: Tuesday, February 28

Dear Friends,

We are concerned, as no doubt you are, about the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak. We are monitoring the situation carefully through the information available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. You can also learn more from the  CDC website.

At this time, we are not making changes to our program offerings at Beth Am, but we will let you know if anything changes. We have regrettably made the decision to cancel the planned trip to Greece and Israel, and we have communicated with those participants directly.

Just like with the more common cold and flu, we ask that you please use the same 24-hour rule of thumb for attending any programming at Beth Am as you would for work or school. If you or your child has been ill, please keep them home until they have been fever free, untreated, for 24 hours, for the health and safety of all.

Additional Helpful Reminders/Precautions:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol only if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home and do not travel when you are sick.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue in the trash. Then wash your hands with soap and water. - Consider greeting others verbally and with elbow bumps (like a fist bump!) as an alternative to handshakes, hugs and kisses.

If you are not able to attend Beth Am's Shabbat services, you are always welcome to join by livestream at www.betham.org/streaming each Friday at 6:15 PM.

We will continue to communicate with local Jewish organizations and to monitor the information that becomes available from authorities. Nothing is more important than the safety, health and well-being of our community.

Wishing you a restful Shabbat,

Rabbi Janet Marder
Rabbi Jon Prosnit
Cantor Jaime Shpall
Rabbi Heath Watenmaker
Rabbi Sarah Weissman
