Beth Am Women Mother's Day Photo Exhibit: Women of the Bible Through a Creative Lens

9:00 AM - 11:59 PMbit.ly/BAW-Odessa-PhotoNOW OPEN: Visit the Mother's Day Photo Exhibit
The idea for the Beth Am Women (BAW)-Odessa Mother’s Day Photo Exhibit was brought to BAW by Elena (Lena) Izmailova (above, left), the chair of Shirat Ha-Yam, our sister congregation in Odessa, Ukraine. Lena is a talented photographer, and she proposed a joint project through which photographers from both the Beth Am and Shirat Ha-Yam communities could study women of the Bible, and then create an online exhibit of photographs inspired by these women.
Throughout the fall and winter of 2021-22, members of BAW and Shirat Ha-Yam met over Zoom to get to know one another and plan the project. Sadly, the war in Ukraine intervened, bringing an end to the collaboration. Some members of Shirat Ha-Yam have fled; others stayed to fight. They are scattered throughout Ukraine and neighboring countries.
Beth Am Women decided to move forward with the project as a tribute to the bravery of their partners in Odessa. Fortunately, photographs Lena captured of the Shirat Ha-Yam community were salvaged, and with her permission, these will be incorporated in the exhibit, along with photographs from the members of the Beth Am community.
