12:00 PM - 1:30 PMZoom Videoconference

This Month's Topic: Heaven and Heresy

Shelley Hebert invites you to join her for the Philosophy Minyan, a lunchtime series that explores topics at the intersection of philosophy, Jewish thought and contemporary issues. Each upcoming session will be on a new topic, to be announced. All are welcome and no advance preparation is needed.

In the October session we will discuss one of the earliest Jewish heretics and explore whether philosophical ideas contributed to his infamy. Looking at the Talmud, 20th century fiction and modern scholarship, we will discuss how he has been portrayed and why his story endures. We will also consider whether the notion of heresy has meaning for contemporary Jews.

Upcoming fall sessions will be held on Wednesdays, November 18 and December 16, from 12 to 1:30 PM.
