OMG! Exploring God Metaphors: From The Profane to The Sacred & The Personal to The Universal

The month of Tammuz has no major holidays. It is the month of summer heat, the death of vegetation and the descent into the depths. It is a month of separation between the summer vacation and the coming school year, and a time of introspection leading up to the High Holy Days. Tammuz is the name of a Babylonian fertility god, but the Greeks call this god Adonis, from Adon, meaning lord — the same root as Adonai. In this vein, we will take a look at the metaphors and allegories we use to describe God, and find the sources of these metaphors in Jewish text throughout history.  Do YOU have a metaphor for God? Come explore with us, whether you believe in God or not.  All women are welcome.
