Daily Vigil for Compassion at Our Borders | Congregation Beth Am

Daily Vigil for Compassion at Our Borders

Together, we will speak out once more against the terrorization of immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers on our southern border and across the country. This will be the final vigil of the series, culminating at an action on Tisha B’Av. The three weeks of this action, leading up to Tisha B’Av, coincide with a period of mourning in Jewish history when the basic values of compassion and justice were ruined, resulting in violence and destruction. We are in mourning. Violence and destruction are happening now. We are called to act. In our action, we resolve to respond to cruelty with caring, to abuse with kindness, to hard-heartedness with empathy.

Please let Rabbi Sarah Weissman, (650) 493-4661 if you are planning on attending.

Rabbi Shelly Lewis, a local Bend the Arc leader, stated "Separating children from their parents and holding them in brutal conditions shames the values of our country. We will not remain silent. Each person, young or old, who comes seeking refuge never surrenders his or her dignity as a human being created in the Divine Image."

Will you speak out with us? Let us know which days you can join our daily vigils.
