February Tzedakah Box Supports AZ House
Our February tzedakah box donations will support AZ (pronounced “Ay-Zee”) House in Jerusalem, a non-profit residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation center that provides a warm, caring therapeutic environment in which residents spend up to eight months recovering from addiction. All care is provided without cost to the families or potential residents; AZ House is therefore able to serve people who would otherwise have found treatment unaffordable. Residents come from both Israel and overseas; most are in their 20s and 30s.
Eric Levitz, the nephew of Beth Am member Claudia Bloom, was instrumental in founding AZ House, believing that “recovery should be available to anyone who needs it; money shouldn’t be the decisive factor.” AZ House offers residents the chance to learn how to live alcohol- and substance-free in a community, develop self-discipline and become responsible contributors to society. In the second stage of recovery, residents continue to live at the house and attend regular 12-step fellowship meetings, but are integrated back into the ‘real’ world of work or study, with guidance and support from staff. Your generous contributions will allow AZ House to continue fulfilling its goal of providing effective, high-quality addiction recovery treatment to all who need it.
