January Tzedakah Box Supports Latet
Our January Tzedakah Box donations support Latet (the Hebrew verb “To give”) – the largest NGO combating poverty and food insecurity in Israel. Acting as an umbrella organization for 180 local associations, Latet operates the leading national food bank as well as impactful aid programs, providing vital monthly assistance to 60,000 families regardless of religion, race, culture or ethnicity. Working in partnership with leading companies in the food industry, Latet rescues and distributes $30 million worth of food annually, aided by a network of 19,000 volunteers who are the backbone of Latet’s work.
Poverty in Israel touches people from all ages and backgrounds, but one of the most vulnerable populations is the elderly – among them, 45,000 Holocaust survivors (1 in 4) who live below the poverty line. Latet’s “Aid for Life” program provides physical and emotional assistance to impoverished Holocaust survivors, including a monthly food box, emergency funds for paramedical needs, home repair services and social support in the form of home visits and transportation to social events throughout the year.
In addition to providing humanitarian relief, the organization works actively to raise public awareness of poverty and hunger, and advocates for governmental policy to reduce poverty and promote self-sufficiency.
