Class of the Month: Marriage in Israel -- Do We Have to Invite the Government?

A Sequoia Hadassah Event with Yael Yechieli-Persico

Since its founding, Israeli law required Jewish citizens to marry through the Orthodox Rabbinical Court. Some Israelis have chosen to avoid these rules through marriage abroad, and the trend has grown in the past decade. A mass movement has developed to contest the Rabbinate’s monopoly.

Join us for the history and outcomes of this movement for control underneath the chuppah.

$15 Donation to Hadassah. RSVP to Leah.

Yael Yechieli-Persico is an Israeli political activist who has been teaching about progressive issues of gender equality, freedom of religion, human rights and Jewish identity for 20 years.
