Friday Afternoon Study Group
Looking for a wonderful way to keep your mind sharp and get in the mood for Shabbat? Join the Friday Afternoon Study Group to deepen your understanding about life in general and being Jewish. No preparation necessary. All are welcome to read aloud, discuss and ponder.
The Friday Afternoon Study group has been held at Beth Am for over 30 years. In addition to the Torah, we have read the Apocrypha, Philo, Josephus, Heshel, Borowitz, Hartman and Wiesel. Coordinated by Dr. Saul Wasserman, we take turns reading aloud and discussing what we read. We are now reading "Maimonides and the Book that Changed Judaism—Secrets of the Guide for the Perplexed” by Micah Goodman. This is your chance to understand the Rambam, without the full-scale struggle of the complex and difficult text. Loaner books are available.
Discussions are lively, respectful and represent a blend of perspectives from non-believer to committed faithful. If you enjoy learning, please join us!
