Join Us in Honoring Rabbi Miriam Philips and Youth Advisor Alana Green

Please join the Beth Am community in celebrating the end of another great year of Sunday Program. We'll also honor the contributions of Rabbi Miriam Philips and youth advisor, Alana Green, to the Beth Am community, as they prepare to leave Beth Am. We will be honoring them both on Sunday, May 19 at Sunday Program T’filah at 11:00 a.m., followed by a bring-your-own picnic on the Social Hall patio. Thanks to Beth Am Men, we’ll provide dessert and treats and hope you can join us to say thank you and farewell.

Rabbi Miriam Philips has accepted a job as a rabbi educator at Temple Bat Yahm of Newport Beach. This position will enable her to live near her family in Southern California. We appreciate all that Rabbi Miriam has brought to our community these past 3 years. She has a real passion for taking care of our students and engaging our families.  She has also provided great leadership in creating more inclusive learning environments at Beth Am and this work has benefitted all of our teachers and students. We wish her and her family all the best.

In addition, our youth advisor, Alana Green, will be moving out of the area this summer as well. Alana cares deeply about our teens and has encouraged them to find their own Jewish path through activities at Beth Am such as madrichim or with youth group / NFTY events. In her songleader role, Alana has also brought a real spirit to our youth education t'filah this past year.  We are grateful for her work at Beth Am and excited for her in her future endeavors.

Since last fall, we have had an Education Task Force reviewing how best to organize all of our learning initiatives. Following their recommendations and with their ongoing support we undertook a search for an experienced educator. Our lead candidate for the role recently accepted the position and a more detailed announcement will follow soon. We will also keep you posted on how we plan to structure the roles on our education team for the coming year and let you know as we fill any remaining positions. Fortunately, we have several experienced educators on staff who provide a strong foundation in leading our programs. We will build on their expertise, welcome new leaders and move forward in strength.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to Beth Am President Andy Cheng with any questions.
