Avodah! Jewish Service Learning

Avodah! Jewish Service Learning

8th-9th Grades

Michael Mason, Director

Meets Three Times Each Month: Two Tuesdays, 5:30 - 7:45 PM including dinner and one Sunday per month. Community service projects on Sundays will usually last 2-3 hours and be at various times.

This class engages students in tikkun olam (repairing the world). Avodah! students learn about Jewish values that relate to community service, then enact those values through engaging, offsite service projects. This experience-based class helps empower students to change the world and builds their self-esteem by doing good work in the community. The program year includes a required service trip which will enhance our understanding of key issues as well as provide an excellent opportunity for group bonding.

Designed to fit the busy schedules of our students and provide an experiential learning opportunity, AVODAH! meets three times a month. Sunday morning or afternoon meetings take place at locations in the community. There will also be Tuesday night gatherings during TNP hours. Each month will include Jewish learning, a service project, and reflection. Additionally we will have speakers from our various community partners share their knowledge with our Avodah! class.
