November Tzedakah Box Supports URJ Camp Newman
Message from JCC Maccabi Sports Camp:
Our sincere thoughts and prayers are extended to all those affected by the North Bay wildfires that have spread across Northern California last month.
It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that URJ Camp Newman has suffered unimaginable damage during the fires. In a statement posted on Facebook, Newman revealed that the majority of their buildings and their property have been destroyed.
Camp Newman is a home away from home and a place of comfort, fun and spirituality for hundreds of children and adults. The destruction caused by the fires evokes powerful feelings of shock, sadness and vulnerability. Our heart aches for all of Newman’s campers, staff and alumni during this tragedy.
At JCC Maccabi Sports Camp, we truly believe there is great strength in community. We are committed to supporting Camp Newman in any and every way that we can during these times of sorrow. Additionally, there are some individuals and families within our own JCC Maccabi Sports Camp community who have been impacted by the fires. We are all part of the warm, inclusive, Jewish summer camp community whose members help to care for one another. As we know more information in the coming days, we will let you know how we can best help everyone in need via our Facebook page.
Donations will support the Jewish Community Federation's North Bay Wildfire Emergency Fund. All donations will be used to help victims of the North Bay fires, including Camp Newman.
To make an online donation, visit the Beth Am Give page and select "Tzedakah Box" from the list of funds (click magnifying glass to see list of funds). Or, your donations may be placed in any of the tzedakah boxes on the Beth Am campus (in the Sanctuary foyer, Beit Kehillah or Administrative Office). If you prefer to make your donation by check, please make it payable to Congregation Beth Am and mail to: Congregation Beth Am, Attn: Tzedakah Box - North Bay Fires, 26790 Arastradero Road, Los Altos Hills, CA 94022. Thank you for your support!
Donate Gift Cards
As part of the relief efforts, Beth Am is also collecting gift cards (Target, Walmart, Lowes, Walgreens, etc.) that we will securely sent to to be distributed amongst those affected by the flooding. The gift cards will be used to assist in meeting immediate needs and expenses for replenishing clothing, toiletries, household items, school supplies for children, etc. Collection boxes will be in the Beth Am Youth Ed and Main Offices throughout the month of November. (Additionally, Beth Am Youth Ed. students can give gift cards to their teachers.)
-- Do You Have a Vacation Home in Napa or Sonoma? Would you consider renting it out on a long-term basis to a member family of Shomrei Torah who has lost their home? We can't turn back time and stop the fires from happening. We can't undo the trauma, and we can't rebuild people's lives. But we can put roofs over their heads. Learn more.
