8 Ways to Take Jewish Action around Family Separation

Many members of the Reform Jewish community are heartbroken and horrified by the separation of children from their families at the border. There are many ways to take action as individuals, with your congregations, and as a movement. Please consider reading a blog post, by the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, which is being updated as more opportunities to take action become available.

Many of us at Beth Am have been looking for ways to provide help for migrant families in Texas. Thanks to those that have brought supplies for families at the border -- nine boxes are on their way to Texas. Due to space constraints, we encourage you to send funds directly to Temple Emanuel – the synagogue in McAllen, Texas that is coordinating donations for these families. Please donate via their website at temple-emanuel.com (note “refugees” in the comments). Temple Emanuel will deliver everything to parents and children who have been incarcerated and separated on the border. The funds will help purchase things which the families are very much in need of:

  • Pedialyte
  • Deodorant for men and women
  • Blankets
  • Women's underwear, sizes 5-6
  • Women's bras and sports bras, sizes 32-36
  • Maternity pants
  • Women's pants, sizes 7 and below
  • Women's tops, small sizes
  • Women's shoes, sizes 5-7
  • Men's shoes, sizes 7-8
  • Children's shoes (particularly athletic shoes), all sizes
  • Toiletries
  • Children's toys

Thank you for your generosity!
