Beth Am's Approach to Re-Opening

With the health and safety of our community in mind, our Recovery Planning Team (led by Executive Director Rachel Tasch and Board Member Rachel Gibson) has been working to develop and implement the procedures needed to re-open safely, in a deliberate manner. The current approach is:

  • Our campus facility continues to be closed, with the exception of the small preschool that rents space, and some essential tasks performed by office and custodial staff. Clergy and most staff work remotely.
  • The clergy are leading Erev Shabbat services from our Outdoor Chapel (without congregants in attendance).
  • B’nei Mitzvah services will continue to take place from home, allowing the B’nei Mitzvah to chant from a Torah scroll they bring home from Beth Am.
  • We are preparing to host small religious ceremonies (primarily small weddings and memorial services) in compliance with the County Order, which limits us to 25 individuals gathering entirely outdoors, without food or singing allowed, and with full contact tracking.
  • The fall semester of Youth Education programs is being planned as primarily online sessions.

As the re-opening plan expands to include other small groups and/or in-person worship, we will share the procedures for returning to campus for those events. For now, we will continue to offer a wide array of events, programs and services online.
