Torah Study with Guest Teacher Rabbi Ofek Meir

Israel-Diaspora Relations: "Will the Two Walk Together, Without Agreeing?" (Amos 3:3)

On September 14, we welcome Rabbi Ofek Meir, Headmaster and Managing Director of the Leo Baeck Education Center in Haifa. Leo Baeck is one of Israel's premier educational institutions, founded on Reform Jewish philosophy, ideology and practice. Rabbi Meir, a leader of Israel's Reform movement, will discuss tensions between Israeli and Diaspora Jews, and how we might understand this issue through the lens of Jewish texts.

Ofek Meir began his career at Leo Baeck as the Community Center’s youth coordinator. He established, and was principal of both the Elementary School and the Junior High School. Before taking on his current role, Rabbi Meir served as Head of the Beit Midrash and Director of the Israeli Rabbinical Program at the Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem. He earned a master’s degree in Jewish Education and rabbinic ordination from HUC-JIR. He also holds a musician’s degree in classical guitar from the Royal College of Music in London.
