URGENT: Take Action on Afghanistan
URGENT: Take Action on Afghanistan
"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free..." —From Emma Lazarus’ “The New Colossus”
Dear Friends,
We are devastated by the news in Afghanistan over the past few days. As you likely know, Beth Am has helped resettle Afghani families in the past with Catholic Charities. We have reached out to our partners at Catholic Charities and HIAS to see if we can help in any way. Please find this important message from HIAS below. If there are opportunities for us to engage that you know of, please let me know.

Message from HIAS
The images and videos of refugees fleeing Afghanistan are absolutely harrowing. Please take a moment to review the HIAS Statement on the Afghanistan Crisis for context on the fluid situation on the ground and how it influences how we can collectively act to make a difference.
Here are the top four ways to take action:
- Advocate: Tell President Biden: The U.S. Must Evacuate At-Risk Afghans. This is the #1 priority – we must demonstrate unwavering public support for at-risk Afghans!
- Learn: Attend the HIAS briefing call on Monday, August 23, 1:00 PM (PT)
- Share: Share information with Afghans who may contact you or folks in your network seeking to flee (or help their family members) flee the country.
- Volunteer: HIAS affiliate JFCS-East Bay’s Urgent Afghan Evacuation Program is well underway as it’s already resettling SIVs who arrived in the U.S. Please sign up to volunteer or support their Amazon Wish List. Let’s show a good California welcome — and stay tuned to help with many more SIVs (timeline remains unknown), as well as a much larger flow of refugees from around the world starting on October 1 for the new federal fiscal year.
