April Tzedakah Box: The Day Worker Center of Mountain View

Beth Am's April Tzedakah Box supports the Day Worker Center of Mountain View, a non-profit organization serving the communities surrounding Mountain View, Los Altos and Sunnyvale. Established in 1996 by leaders from local businesses, churches and the community, the Center provide job-matching services for hundreds of local homeowners and businesses annually. Working low-wage jobs with an uncertain number of hours, many people who visit the Day Workers Center are already the most vulnerable members of our community. Many have no health insurance and some do not qualify for public assistance others are homeless and live in a car or RV.

While day worker centers throughout the U.S. were forced to close, the Day Worker Center of Mountain View kept its doors open. They changed their focus on the fly — while staying true to their mission and beliefs — to meet the new emergencies facing day laborers. Since the beginning of the pandemic the Center continues to reduce the need for workers to solicit employment in the street, provides English classes, provides meals (over 2,000 each month) and works to provide laborers and their families with legal and financial resources.
