See this charming documentary, directed by Lisa Hurwitz, about a beloved institution. The Automat contains archival footage of the beloved Philadelphia and New York eateries where the food was tasty and, as Mel Brooks sings in a new song he wrote for the film, “For just a shiny nickel, your taste buds you could tickle, with that wonderful, magnificent, unbelievable, awesome coffee at the Automat!”
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Colin Powell, Carl Reiner, Elliott Gould and Starbucks founder Howard Schultz all share their memories.
