Beth Am Dayenu Circle Presents State Senator Josh Becker
Sunday, November 20, 2022 • 26 Cheshvan 5783
4:00 PM - 5:30 PMZoomJoin Beth Am Dayenu Circle for a discussion with State Senator and Beth Am member, Josh Becker. Senator Becker will be speaking on the groundbreaking climate change legislation passed in this past session by the California legislature. He will also be discussing its national implications, his thoughts regarding the future of further environmental legislation, and his insights on the recent national and state elections.
Senator Becker, whose District 13 includes most of San Mateo County and Northern Santa Clara County, has long been a supporter of the environment. In this last California session, the legislature passed a dozen climate, equity and social justice bills submitted by Senator Becker. Three of these were recently signed into law and include:
- Senate Bill 1203, the centerpiece of Senator Becker’s 2022 climate portfolio, sets a target for all state agencies to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035, effectively requiring the state to lead the transition to the clean energy future by example.
- SB 1158 improves the way retail electricity suppliers report critical information, providing California with a more accurate picture of when the grid runs on clean energy, when it uses fossil fuels, and how much. The data will help California manage its progress toward clean energy goals.
- SB 887 will help California swiftly build the transmission needed to deliver the enormous amount of new clean energy resources that will enable our state to achieve its goal for zero-carbon electricity by 2045.
