Saturday, February 17, 2024 • 8 Adar I 5784
3:30 PM - 6:00 PMBeit KehillahFilm screening, 1 hour and 58 minutes; English and Yiddish; Followed by discussion
An Orthodox Polish rabbi lands in New York in 1850 and must somehow make his way to a congregation in San Francisco. He quickly acquires a sidekick to help him navigate the daunting journey. Gene Wilder and Harrison Ford star in the humorous, often outlandish, misadventures of this unlikely duo. Wilder’s character is an innocent schlemiel who interprets the rough-and-tumble American West through a Jewish lens, all the while holding on to his principles, beliefs and identity.
