Iran and the Plague - The Beginning of the End?

Join Dr. Menahem Merhavy, research fellow at the Harry S. Truman Institute, The Hebrew University, Jerusalem and an expert on Middle Eastern affairs. Dr. Merhavy will give context to the period when the coronavirus entered Iran and try to judge the prospects of a political upheaval in light of the high rate of fatalities in the country.

Menahem Merhavy earned his PhD from Tel Aviv University, Department of Middle Eastern and African History in 2012. Formerly a researcher at the Leonard Davis Institute for International Relations at the Hebrew University, and a Fulbright Postdoctoral fellow at The University of Texas at Austin. Menahem is currently a fellow at The Harry S. Truman Institute for the Advancement of Peace at The Hebrew University, Jerusalem where he teaches at Rothberg International School and Bar Ilan University. His academic research and teaching include history of modern Iran, Islamic movements in Iran and the Arab world and nationalism and identity in Middle Eastern societies. Menahem has published several articles on Iran and modern Islam. His book titled: National Symbols in Modern Iran: Identity, Ethnicity, and Collective Memory, was published in 2019 by Syracuse University Press.
