Beth Am Women Rosh Chodesh: Iyyar
Tuesday, May 3, 2022 • 2 Iyar 5782
7:30 PM - 9:15 PMZoom Videoconference (RSVP for access details)Rabbinic Interpretation of Women's Roles: The Good, Bad & Ugly and How They've Changed from Ancient to Modern Times, with Special Guest Author Maggie Anton
Beth Am Women welcomes special guest Maggie Anton, author of the Rashi's Daughters trilogy, in honor of her new book coming out in May. Maggie will lead us through a history of Torah and Talmud being interpreted unequally and unfavorably toward women in the areas of marriage, text study and ritual observance, and how it's changed over time until today. In this month of counting the Omer, let's see what history has to say about women's roles in Jewish life, and how the rabbis' interpretations changed over time in regards to women's obligations and roles. Come welcome in Iyar with us. All women are welcome.
Please note: There will be an opportunity to order Maggie's upcoming book, The Choice: A Novel of Love, Faith and the Talmud, which is coming out later in May. A separate Beth Am Women Book Club discussion is being planned with Maggie after the book's release. Details to follow.
Check out Maggie's blog to see what she's up to.
