“In America, every Jew is, in some way, a Jew by choice.” This is what the creators of the hit Israeli TV series discover when popular comedian Guri Alfi embarks on a journey across America, exposing viewers to some of the most vibrant and creative expressions of Jewishness today. He discovers a Judaism that is pluralistic, multi-cultural and packed with promise as he meets female rabbis, Jews observing Shabbat in the most unlikely places and hears the perspectives of recent converts and Jews of color. Alfi’s touch is light, curious and never judgmental.
Just as Israeli audiences fully embraced this series, so will American Jews find it to be eye-opening, humorous and insightful. A gem! (We’ll be screening episodes one and two of the four-part mini-series.)
The Shabbat Jewish Film Series is made possible by the Aptekar Family Endowment Fund for Film.
