3:30 PM - 5:00 PMBeit Kehillah and ZoomFilm Discussion of An Academy-Award Winning Documentary, Presented by Beth Am's Gesharim & Chevra Kadisha
Based on the book by anthropologist Barbara Myerhoff, this short film offers a tender portrait of elderly yet resilient Jews who form a remarkably diverse and connected community at Venice Beach in the mid-1970’s.
We are privileged to to be joined by Number Our Days filmmaker LYNNE LITTMAN as well as Beth Am congregant MICHAEL ASIMOW, grandson of a Harry Asimow (a prominent figure in the film), They will both share their reflections about the community featured in the film. (Michael was actually present at a climactic scene in the movie.)
Cantor Jaime Shpall will share a brief teaching about aspects of Jewish life embodied by these elders. In addition, our Beth Am Library Committee, led by Loren Ford, will introduce the book itself and acquaint us with related titles in our own collection. All the presenters will be available for questions.
