7:30 PM - 8:30 PMZoom VideoconferenceAs Passover, the holiday that reminds us of our people's journey in the desert and our unending quest for freedom, draws near, we are also called to remember the modern day immigrant and the refugee seeker. Please tune in to this program to learn about the status of immigrant and refugee communities, both locally and globally.
The panel will be moderated by Beth Am and Orchard member Dylah Ray, a Mountain View resident who serves on the Human Rights Commission of Santa Clara County and is a member of Emerge CA, a program that identifies and trains women leaders who are committed to civic engagement.
Our guest panelists will be:
María Marroquin is Executive Director for the Day Workers' Center of Mountain View, and Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the National Day Labor Organizing Network (NDLON). María oversees day-to-day operations at the center, serving as liaison with local employers and the community. Her passion is empowering workers to become members of the community. María is also a graduate of the center's programs.
Joe Goldman is the first-ever California-based Community Engagement Director for HIAS, the world’s oldest, and only Jewish, resettlement agency, working on behalf of refugees and asylum seekers of all backgrounds. Prior to HIAS, he served as the Senior Policy Associate at MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, where he advocated to protect and expand access to the social safety net for vulnerable populations. Before returning to his native Los Angeles, Joe spent several years working in heart of the Bay Area's tumultuous local political environment, most recently as the Public Affairs & Civic Engagement Manager for San Francisco at the Jewish Community Relations Council. He holds both a Master’s of Political Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Communication from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
