Erev Shabbat Shuvah Service, With a Discussion on Climate Change
Friday, September 30, 2022 • 5 Tishrei 5783
6:15 PM - 7:30 PMSanctuary* and betham.org/streamingDuring the Shabbat Shuvah service, Cantor Kay Greenwald will be leading a dialogue with Violet Tivol, one of Beth Am’s teen leaders, concerning climate change and the existential impact on our youth as they look ahead to their future and their motivation and leadership to take action.
The Shabbat between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur is called Shabbat Shuvah, Shabbat of Return, because its special haftarah reading begins with the words Shuvah Yisrael, "Return O Israel," from the prophecy of Hosea. It is also referred to as Shabbat Shuvah because it falls during the Ten Days of Repentance (Teshuvah).
We gather (in person and virtually) as part of our Shabbat Shuvah service to dedicate the memorial plaques that have been added to the Memorial Wall. We will read the names of all of those who have been memorialized during the past year. This is always a moving occasion.
*COVID Policies: Vaccination is required to attend in person for everyone over age 5. Mask policies will follow Santa Clara County guidelines. Currently, masks are recommended for any indoor participation.
