Erev Shabbat Service: With Guest Speaker Zack Bodner, OFJCC CEO
Friday, December 10, 2021 • 6 Tevet 5782
6:15 PM - 7:30 PMSanctuary*; betham.org/streamingDuring our Friday Erev Shabbat service, we will hear from Zack Bodner, Oshman Family JCC CEO, who will be discussing his new book, Why Do Jewish? A Manifesto for 21st Century Jewish Peoplehood.
How do I live a more meaningful life? How might I feel more connected to others, to the world around me, to the past and the future? In an era when we can choose our own identities, why might we choose to identify as Jews? These are just some of the questions Zack Bodner addresses as he thoughtfully shifts from asking “Why be Jewish?” to “Why do Jewish?” After laying out a compelling answer to that question, he goes on to explain what Jewish Peoplehood is and why he believes we are in the throes of an evolution to the next era: Jewish Peoplehood 4.0. Watch a short video about the book. To learn more about or order Why do Jewish?, please visit zackbodner.com.
The Beth Am community gathers each Friday night at 6:15 PM to welcome Shabbat. Our worship services are musical, participatory and informal in spirit; they focus on helping us experience the spiritual renewal, peace, joy and sense of celebration that Shabbat can bring.
If you attend virtually, please join at betham.org/streaming or on our YouTube channel or on the Beth Am Facebook page, starting at 6:15 PM. If you miss the 6:15 PM livestream (or a later time works better for you), a simulated broadcast of the service will repeat at 8:00 PM on betham.org/streaming. You may follow along in our texts for the Erev (evening) Shabbat service using the online version of the Mishkan T'filah: A Reform Siddur.
To enhance your enjoyment of Shabbat, please visit betham.org/shabbatcorner (including "Social Stories" in the Resource Box to prepare children ahead of time for what to expect during the Shabbat service).
*Vaccinations are required (please bring proof each time) for all those eligible, and masks are required (for everyone over 2) indoors and outdoors.
This service will be live video streamed. By entering the Sanctuary, you give Beth Am permission to record you.
