Beth Am Supports Hunger & Homelessness
Beth Am Hunger & Homelessness Fund
Each spring Beth Am distributes money from our Hunger and Homelessness Fund to organizations on the frontline fighting hunger and homelessness in our community. Thanks to the generosity of so many Beth Am members, we were able to distribute over $30,000 to these terrific organizations. In these tricky times, we know that these organizations are serving the most vulnerable and our support is more essential than ever. Deuteronomy 15:7-10 elaborates on our commitment to help our neighbor. The text states, "If there is among you a poor man, one of your brethren... you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him, and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be."
An example of the urgency: Community Services Agency (Mt. View and Los Altos) in a typical month will process about 20 rental assistance cases. Just in the first few days of April, CSA had over 1,500 applicants for emergency financial support to pay for April rent and/or utilities. Our friends from LifeMoves told us: “Beth Am's support is deeply appreciated and it is so reassuring to know that you have our backs in these uncertain times.”
The organizations we support include: Community Services Agency, LifeMoves, Home & Hope, Jewish Family and Children Services, Habitat for Humanity, the Second Harvest Food Bank, Sunnyvale Community Services, Ecumenical Hunger Program and Move Mountain View.
We will continue to fight and advocate for the most vulnerable in our community. Beth Am serves as a beacon with all of the love and care expressed by so many in our community.
