June Tzedakah Box: IsraAID COVID-19 Response in India
Beth Am's June Tzedakah Box Supports IsraAID COVID-19 Response in India
In recent months, India has been hit by an unprecedented and devastating wave of COVID-19 infections, hospitalizations and deaths. Daily cases have surpassed 400,000 — the highest number experienced by any country at any point during the pandemic — with many more likely untested and unreported.
Major shortages of medical supplies, including crucial oxygen concentrators and cylinders, have left healthcare providers struggling to cope. Urgent support is needed to provide India’s medical system with lifesaving supplies, while also dealing with the growing mental health crisis and other secondary consequences of the pandemic.
IsraAID is currently mobilizing to respond in India together with partners, working with the district council and local partner organization Gabriel Project Mumbai in Palghar, a rural area north of Mumbai. They are working to support 20 government-run hospitals, serving a population of over 4 million people.
