Beth Am Women Presents A Virtual Kickoff Event With Joyce Goldstein, Renowned Chef, Food Writer and Restaurateur
Monday, February 7, 2022 • 6 Adar I 5782
7:00 PM - 8:15 PMZoomJoin Beth Am Women for a special evening with Joyce Goldstein, renowned chef, food writer and restaurateur. Joyce will be interviewed by Beth Am member Julie Kaufmann Lloyd, a cookbook writer and former food editor at The San Jose Mercury News.
For twelve years Joyce was Chef and Owner of the ground-breaking Mediterranean Restaurant, Square One, in San Francisco. Her menu presented the foods of Italy, Spain, France, Greece, Turkey the Middle East and North Africa. Square One won numerous prestigious industry awards for food, wine and service. During that time, Joyce furthered her passion for Jewish Mediterranean food, which she compiled into a number of books on the subject:
- Cucina Ebraica: Flavors of the Italian Jewish Kitchen
- Sephardic Flavors: Jewish Cooking of the Mediterranean
- Saffron Shores Jewish Cooking of the Southern Mediterranean
- The New Mediterranean Jewish Table: Old World Recipes for the Modern Home
Joyce writes “I loved that the Mediterranean diet was more diverse, based on lots of vegetables, fruit and grains, with small portions of meat, poultry and fish and lots of herbs and spices for flavor interest.”
Joyce was also founder and director of the California Street Cooking School, San Francisco’s first international cooking school and taught kitchen design for the University of California’s Department of Architecture. Joyce was elected to “Who’s Who in Food” in 1985. She was voted San Francisco FOCUS magazine’s ”Chef of the Year” in 1992. She received the James Beard Award for Best Chef in California for 1993 and in 2005 was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from Women Chefs and Restauranteurs.
Registration is now closed.
