Erev Shabbat Summer Outdoor Service

Friday, July 8, 2022 9 Tammuz 5782

6:15 PM - 7:30 PMOutdoor Chapel*; betham.org/streaming

We're thrilled to welcome the congregation back to Beth Am for Kabbalat Shabbat services in our beautiful Outdoor Chapel. As is the Beth Am tradition, the divrei Torah will be given by Beth Am members or invited guests. This week's d'var Torah will be given by Emily Nagaonkar. (Find the upcoming speaker schedule here.)

Before the Erev Shabbat service, Olivia, a Beth Am Bat Mitzvah student and rising 8th grader, will be hosting a bake sale to raise money for LifeMoves shelter as part of her Bat Mitzvah tikkun olam project. Here is Olivia's personal statement:

"My name is Olivia and I am an incoming 8th grader at Fletcher Middle School. I am becoming a Bat Mitzvah on September 10, and as my Bat Mitzvah project I want to decorate and donate pillows to a LifeMoves shelter in Mountain View for homeless families. When people come to a shelter they usually are in a very hard place in life, and by making decorative pillows I can brighten up the space and hopefully their lives just a little bit, and make them feel more at home and comfortable. I love art and have been doing it for many years, and am excited to use this skill to make the pillows as welcoming as possible. I am raising money at a bake sale to pay for the pillows, pillowcases, and art supplies. With your support, I can help these families during a time of need."

Please come to the Outdoor Chapel at 5:45 PM prior to the Erev Shabbat service to purchase baked goods and support Olivia's Bat Mitzvah tzedek project!

The Beth Am community gathers each Friday night at 6:15 PM to welcome Shabbat. Our worship services are musical, participatory and informal in spirit; they focus on helping us experience the spiritual renewal, peace, joy and sense of celebration that Shabbat can bring.

If you attend virtually, please join at betham.org/streaming or on our YouTube channel or on the Beth Am Facebook page, starting at 6:15 PM. If you miss the 6:15 PM livestream (or a later time works better for you), a simulated broadcast of the service will repeat at 8:00 PM on betham.org/streaming. You may follow along in our texts for the Erev (evening) Shabbat service using the online version of the Mishkan T'filah: A Reform Siddur.

To enhance your enjoyment of Shabbat, please visit betham.org/shabbatcorner (including "Social Stories" in the Resource Box to prepare children ahead of time for what to expect during the Shabbat service).

*Vaccinations are required to attend in-person programming. Please bring proof of vaccination with you each time. Following Santa Clara County, masks are recommended but not required (except for our youth education programs, where indoor masking is required).

**These services will be live video streamed. By entering the Outdoor Chapel, you give Beth Am permission to record you.
