Tisha B’Av: A Time for Reflection and Mourning

Sunday, August 3, 2025 9 Av 5785

7:00 PM - 8:00 PMBeit Kehillah* and Livestream; Followed by Havdalah & a Break-the-Fast on the Beit Kehillah Patio

Join us for this day of reflection, chanting of Eicha (Book of Lamentations), and a presentation by Daniel Kemerov (pictured at left), a teen from Belarus, who will share his experiences about what it is like to live in galut (in exile).

The story of Tisha B’Av is both about loss and hope. We will begin the evening, steeped in the historic loss of the Temple in Jerusalem, as well as the losses that have occurred for our people throughout the last two millennia. However, with loss, there is always hope. Daniel will share his story of life in Belarus, both as one whose Judaism has to be hidden, and the vibrancy of Jewish life that continues. (Watch a YouTube video of Daniel's interview with Reverend Dr. Malkhaz Songulashvili, Bishop of the Evangelical Christian Baptist Church.)

Our evening will conclude with a special havdalah, marking that moment where we move from loss to life. A light break-the-fast will follow our observance. Please register for the break-the-fast by Friday, August 1 using the form below.

*This service will be livestreamed. By entering the Beit Kehillah, you give Beth Am permission to record you.

Sorry, Registration has ended.
