12:00 PM - 1:30 PMNEW DATE! Zoom VideoconferenceMeet the Dybbuk
Just in time for Halloween, the Philosophy Minyan invites you to encounter one of Jewish tradition’s most cherished evil spirits — the dybbuk. In this session, we will explore where the concept of the dybbuk emerged and how it moved from the realm of folklore to become a cultural phenomenon that has endured for centuries. Together we will see how the dybbuk captured the imaginations of 20th century playwrights, composers and choreographers including Tony Kushner, Leonard Bernstein and Jerome Robbins. Their interpretations, as well as those of 21st century artists, are keeping the dybbuk alive in our time. Join us as we consider who and what the dybbuk may be possessing today.
