PART I – Madrichim Job Description
Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Role Modeling - Enthusiastic and energetic participants in all program activities!
- Partner with Teachers - Lead groups and activities in the classroom.
- Awareness - Help students build relationships by checking in with students throughout the class time. Be on the lookout for bullying.
- Flexibility - Our programming can change at a moment’s notice, so be ready to adapt as we go, while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Ownership of Transition Times - Keep an eye on students at these times; play a game or check in with students.
- Timeliness - Arrive 15 minutes early to each class and take it upon yourself to check in with your teacher prior to the start time if you have questions about the class.
- Active Participation - Participate in the lesson. You are modeling for the rest of the students. Be a leader!
- Creativity - We want your ideas and talents! Find an appropriate time (not in front of students) to share your great ideas with teachers and Program Directors.
- If an issue arises during class, follow the protocol given during the Madrichim training and/or seek out one of our Ed Directors.
- Confidentiality and Appropriateness - Keep student issues private and limited to those who need to know. Do not use the names of students when sharing stories about class - even if they are positive. Do not share inappropriate details of your own life (such as whom you are dating) with students.
- Absolutely NO cell phone use other than for education program business.
- Dress appropriately for the classroom environment.
- Use appropriate and positive language.
Shadows (assist special needs students):
- Help accommodate your student’s needs as much as possible, with the help of a teacher when necessary.
- Ask for help!
- Your attention should be primarily focused on your student, but that does not mean that you can't step up and help the teacher when necessary.
PART II: Requirements for Madrichim
- Madrichim will attend a mandatory orientation - August 27th & 28th (with optional overnight). Exact times TBD
- Madrichim will take absences seriously - If unable to attend a program session, you must notify your lead teacher AND Lauren in advance.
- Madrichim will attend all professional development trainings and workshops. If unable to attend a training or workshop, you must notify Lauren in advance. A schedule of all trainings and workshops will be shared before the start of the school year.
- Madrichim must complete all paperwork before they can be paid. You must have a NEW work permit on file EACH YEAR that you are working. Work Permits renew in August of each school year.
