Beth Am is delighted to welcome Abigail Pogrebin, author of My Jewish Year: 18 Holidays, One Wondering Jew, for a weekend of exciting learning and robust discussion. As part of Beth Am's One Book, One Congregation program, all member households received a copy of Pogrebin's book in the fall, and many congregants have spent the past few months reading and discussing it in small groups. Now we'll hear from the author herself!

  • Adventure, Revelations and Roadblocks While Writing My Jewish Year*

    Abby will speak during Erev Shabbat services about what led her to write My Jewish Year, and share some of the highlights of what she discovered and what changed her Judaism.
     
  • Shabbat Dinner to Support Ukraine
    Friday, February 2, 7:30 PM, Social Hall
    After our Friday evening Shabbat service with Abby Pogrebin, come dine at a delicious community dinner prepared by the Poltava/Odessa Committee. The dinner is full; registration is now closed.
     
  • Torah Study*
    Saturday, February 3, 9:00 AM, Beit Kehillah, Zoom or Livestream
    Abigail is a passionate learner of Torah, having created the podcast “Parsha in Progress,” in which she and Rabbi Dov Linzer discussed the weekly Torah portion. Abigail will join a member of the Beth Am clergy for a discussion of the Torah portion, Yitro.
     
  • Jewish Values Post-October 7:  Welcoming the Stranger Even When the Stranger Might Not Welcome Us Back*
    Saturday, February 3, Doors Open at 7:00 PM; Talk Begins at 7:30 PM, Beit Kehillah and Livestream

    Join us for conversation, snacks and cocktails (wine and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available) with Abigail Pogrebin about the Jewish communal response to October 7 — the antisemitism unleashed and how many feel tested when it comes to our liberal Jewish values and commitment to interfaith collaboration.
     
  • Bringing the Holidays Home: Concrete Ideas for Making the Tentpole Holidays Exciting for Kids of Any Age

    Sunday Program parents are invited to a discussion with Abigail on what she’s road-tested with her own family to make the month of Elul, the High Holy Days, Chanukah, Passover and Purim come to new life.
