Beth Am is delighted to welcome Abigail Pogrebin, author of My Jewish Year: 18 Holidays, One Wondering Jew, for a weekend of exciting learning and robust discussion. As part of Beth Am's One Book, One Congregation program, all member households received a copy of Pogrebin's book in the fall, and many congregants have spent the past few months reading and discussing it in small groups. Now we'll hear from the author herself!

Abby will speak during Erev Shabbat services about what led her to write My Jewish Year, and share some of the highlights of what she discovered and what changed her Judaism.

Abigail is a passionate learner of Torah, having created the podcast “Parsha in Progress,” in which she and Rabbi Dov Linzer discussed the weekly Torah portion. Abigail will join a member of the Beth Am clergy for a discussion of the Torah portion, Yitro.

The World of Midrash, Taught by Rabbi Yoel Kahn
Tuesday, May 6th 7:00p to 8:30pA midrash is “a story about a story in the Torah” (or the Tanakh [Hebrew Bible]). One of the oldest forms of Jewish commentary, midrash moves beyond the “literal” reading of any text to bring imaginative and creative interpretations.
